Undergraduate Journals
The Corinthian
The Corinthian, published every spring, recognizes student achievement in research by providing publishing opportunities for undergraduate and graduate Georgia College students from all disciplines.
Papers published in The Corinthian that are authored by undergraduate students will also be considered for publication in Metamorphosis, COPLAC's online journal of undergraduate research. These papers will be selected by the student editorial staff of The Corinthian.
Metamorphosis
First published in 2009, Metamorphosis features scholarly and creative work at COPLAC member institutions across the United States and Canada. The journal is interdisciplinary by design, highlighting work in the natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, arts and professional programs.
The Pentagon
The Pentagon is the official journal of Kappa Mu Epsilon, an honor society in mathematics. It is published semiannually in December and May of each year. Articles of interest to undergraduate mathematics students are included, assisting the Society in achieving its objectives. Most of the papers are written by student KME members and many have previously been presented at national or regional conventions.
Furman University Electronic Journal of Undergraduate Mathematics
The journal accepts papers of significant mathematical interest written by students containing work done prior to the students' obtaining a Bachelor's degree. Papers of all types will be considered, including technical, historical, and expository papers. Typically, papers will have been written as part of a summer research experience or school project. Any paper submitted by an undergraduate must have the approval of a sponsor, a full-time faculty member willing to endorse the student's work. The sponsor is largely responsible for ensuring the quality and veracity of the student's work. The sponsor's name and school will appear with the paper along with the student's name. The editorial board of the Journal reserves the right to reject any paper it deems inappropriate.
Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal
The Rose-Hulman Undergraduate Mathematics Journal is devoted entirely to papers written by undergraduates on topics related to mathematics. Although the authors need not be undergraduates at the time of submission or publication, the work must have been completed before graduation. The journal will be distributed freely in an electronic format (PDF) from the journal's web site.
In order to maintain a high level of exposition, each paper must be sponsored by a mathematician familiar with the student's work and each paper will be refereed. The editor-in-chief will make the final decision for publication.
Involve
Involve showcases and encourages high-quality mathematical research involving students from all academic levels. The editorial board consists of mathematical scientists committed to nurturing student participation in research.
Submissions in all mathematical areas are encouraged. All manuscripts accepted for publication in Involve are considered publishable in quality journals in their respective fields, and include a minimum of one-third student authorship. Submissions should include substantial faculty input; faculty co-authorship is encouraged. In most cases, the submission (and accompanying cover letter) should come from a faculty member.
Involve, bridging the gap between the extremes of purely undergraduate-research journals and mainstream research journals, provides a venue to mathematicians wishing to encourage the creative involvement of students.
SIAM Undergraduate Research Online
SIAM Undergraduate Research Online is an open-access publication devoted to undergraduate research in applied and computational mathematics. Topics include subjects such as analysis, discrete mathematics, statistics, operations research, optimization, dynamical systems, modeling, and computation. Applications come from areas such as the physical, life, financial, and management sciences and engineering.
SIURO papers are written by undergraduates as part of their undergraduate education. Student authors prepare and submit the paper, correspond with an Associate Editor, have the paper read by outside referees, and respond to the referees. SIURO provides articles on applied and computational topics that are accessible to undergraduate students. For faculty advisors and mentors, the publication provides models of outstanding undergraduate research.
Pi Mu Epsilon Journal
Pi Mu Epsilon promotes scholarship in mathematics is through the publishing of the Pi Mu Epsilon Journal. The Pi Mu Epsilon Journal Editor is interested in considering papers that may be of interest to readers of the PMEJ. Papers written by undergraduates are preferred but papers written by faculty members will be considered if the content is appropriate for undergraduate readers. In general, submitted papers should not exceed 10 typeset pages.
American Journal of Undergraduate Research (AJUR)
Established in 2002 with the ISSN 1536-4585, American Journal of Undergraduate Research (AJUR) is devoted to making its authors’ publications distinct not only by the excellence of the content, but also by being student- and public-friendly, and searchable by professionals. AJUR is a refereed journal for undergraduate research in the pure and applied sciences, mathematics, engineering, technology, and related area in education.
Council on Undergraduate Research
The goal for the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) is to "share a focus on providing undergraduate research opportunities for faculty and students at all institutions serving undergraduate students. CUR believes that faculty members enhance their teaching and contribution to society by remaining active in research and by involving undergraduates in research. CUR’s leadership works with agencies and foundations to enhance research opportunities for faculty and students. CUR provides support for faculty development. Our publications and outreach activities are designed to share successful models and strategies for establishing and institutionalizing undergraduate research programs. We assist administrators and faculty members in improving and assessing the research environment at their institutions. CUR also provides information on the importance of undergraduate research to state legislatures, private foundations, government agencies, and the U.S. Congress. CUR welcomes faculty and administrators from all academic institutions. Our primary advocacy is in support of faculty and undergraduate students engaged in research. CUR achieves its vision through efforts of its membership as organized in a divisional structure that includes arts and humanities, biology, chemistry, engineering, geosciences, health sciences, mathematics and computer science, physics and astronomy, psychology, social sciences, an at-large division that serves administrators and other disciplines, and a division for directors of undergraduate research programs." See the Council on Undergraduate Research webpage for more details.
Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics
"The Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics (CURM) helps undergraduate students throughout the United States to be excited about the mathematical sciences, to complete their undergraduate degree and learn essential research skills, and to prepare them for success in graduate school and their careers. CURM has had tremendous success in doing this by promoting academic year undergraduate research in the mathematical sciences." See the Center for Undergraduate Research in Mathematics webpage to learn more about the program supported by BYU.
Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges
Georgia College & State University is a member institution of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). For more information about this important distinction of our university, please see the COPLAC webpage.
